How to care for leather

Business Bags

Hello, I'm Sugawara, the designer!

You can of course use your bag without any maintenance, but if you want to keep it in good condition for as long as possible, you need to care for the leather.

Customers who visit our store always comment that they would like us to teach them how to take care of their bags , so this time we would like to talk about the theme of " bag maintenance and care methods "!

[Why you need to take care of your bag]

Leather bags can develop cracks and tears with continued use.

The reason for this is that the leather surface loses moisture as it dries out.

Unlike synthetic leather, real animal leather needs to be cared for in the same way as human skin, to keep it oily and moisturized .

Furthermore, the longer you use it and take care of it, the richer its luster and texture will become, and you will enjoy watching it grow into a bag that you will grow to love even more.

[Timing for leather maintenance]

When you look at or touch the surface of the leather of your leather bag and feel that it has become dry (rough and flaky), it is time to care for it with a moisturizing cream (Lanapur) .

If it is moist and supple but not dry, there is no need to treat it with moisturizing cream (Lanapar).

If it gets wet from rain or snow, or if you accidentally get it dirty, do not leave it as it is, but clean it as soon as you notice it.

Daily care instructions

Business Bags

1) Remove any dirt or dust from the surface by brushing with a leather brush or wiping dry with a soft cloth.

If the item is very dirty, wipe it off with a tightly wrung wet towel and then dry it in the shade.

② Apply a thin layer of moisturizing cream (Lanapar) to the entire body of the bag. Applying it to the zipper and metal pulls will also help prevent rust.

3. Leave it for a while to let the leather absorb the paint, then finish by wiping it dry with a soft cloth.

④ Dry in the shade in a well-ventilated place for a while.

  • How to clean it if it gets wet

The biggest enemy of leather bags is mold. If the leather gets wet, immediately towel dry it and leave it in a well-ventilated place. Do not dry it with a hair dryer or fan.

[Points to note when caring for leather]

  • Clean with clean tools

Use clean tools such as towels and brushes for cleaning. If you use dirty tools, you may end up transferring dirt to your bag instead of cleaning it. Don't forget to wash the towels and brushes after cleaning your bag to remove any dirt.

  • Use an appropriate amount of moisturizing cream (Ranapar)

Applying too much oil can damage the texture of the leather and cause mold and stains. When applying oil, it is important not to apply too much, but to spread it as thinly and evenly as possible. If you apply too much, wipe it off.

What to do if color transfer occurs

If the color of denim or other clothing transfers to your leather bag due to friction, follow the steps below to clean it.

  1. Wipe dry with a soft cloth.
  2. Apply leather cleaner to a cloth and gently tap the stained area to remove the dirt. (*Please be careful not to rub the area as this may cause the color to spread.)
  3. Remove the cleaner with a dry part of the cloth.

YOUTA representative and designer Sugawara

There are a lot of cool clothes for men, but not many bags. So we decided to make our own. With this frank idea in mind, we launched the men's bag brand "YOUTA" in 2006. Having worked in various apparel-related jobs such as clothes, watches, and shoes, I focused on synthetic leather. It is a lightweight and rain-resistant material, so unlike leather, it does not require maintenance. The reason we chose synthetic leather is that it is "vegan leather," a non-animal material that suits the modern era. We hope that you will enjoy a comfortable and enjoyable business life with our high-quality bags certified by Toyooka Bags and playful customizations.
