Greetings, everyone.
Pre-orders for our 20th Anniversary "Limited Tweed" series began on our official online store (Shopify) on July 1st. We are incredibly grateful for the many pre-orders we have already received, accompanied by passionate messages such as "I've been waiting for this for three years" and "I've pre-ordered the new YK31." With limited availability of only 15 pieces per size, we are once again feeling the immense anticipation you all hold for this "reissue."
Now, in this development story shared across three installments, we turn to the second part. This time, we will guide you into the profound world of the bag's "face"—the two core elements that deepen your affection every time you touch them: "Tweed-style PVC" and "Natural Karin Wood Handles."
Why did we choose this material instead of authentic wool? And why do we carve out natural wood instead of using plastic? Once you learn the reasons, you will surely realize that this bag is not merely a "stylish accessory," but a "precision tool" worthy of accompanying you for a lifetime.

1. The optimal solution: "Tweed-style PVC" chosen to surpass the genuine article
|
|
|
When you hear the word "tweed," what imagery comes to mind?
The bleak natural beauty of Scotland, refined British country style, or the warm touch of wool? Tweed is the ultimate material for autumn and winter fashion, instantly exuding "elegance" and "class." However, it is a different story when crafting a business bag for daily use or a primary bag for everyday life.
Genuine woven wool or cotton fabrics absorb moisture when rained on, becoming heavy and potentially leading to stains or mold. Furthermore, due to friction on crowded trains or daily wear and tear, the surface inevitably fuzzes and gradually loses its shape. "Could we realize this overwhelming classic aesthetic with the toughness to be used vigorously 365 days a year, regardless of the weather?"
To tackle this challenge, we arrived at a special material: "Tweed-style PVC (vinyl chloride)."
Utilizing the latest embossing technology, we have reproduced the "texture" and "depth" of tweed—where threads of varying thicknesses intertwine—with precision down to the sub-millimeter. Depending on the angle of light, it reveals a deep expression as if genuine wool were absorbing and reflecting light. Yet, the material itself is rugged PVC that is waterproof and can be wiped clean instantly if soiled.
When leaving the house in the morning, there is no need to compromise by saying, "It looks like rain, so I’ll leave my favorite bag at home." Even on a day with pouring rain, you can head to your business engagements looking effortlessly elegant in tweed. This is the "modern functional beauty" we pursue. |
2. One-of-a-kind. The sensory pleasure of "Natural Melaleuca handles" that fit perfectly in your palm
|
|
|
Reigning supreme atop our tough, rain-ready body is our brand identity: the "wooden handle." For this limited edition tweed, we have adopted "Melaleuca," a precious wood known for its extremely dense grain and high durability.
Many modern bags use mass-produced plastic or synthetic leather handles. While uniform and precise, our commitment to natural wood stems from the "warmth of life" and the "luxury of aging" that it provides.
Melaleuca is known for being both gracefully smooth to the touch and highly resistant to humidity and dryness. Achieving the exquisite curve that makes you think, "Ah, this is comfortable," the moment you grip it requires the intuition and skill of a master craftsman.
Every handle is unique, with its appearance varying based on the grain pattern and the section of wood it was carved from. In other words, the one out of 15 pieces you receive features a grain pattern unique to you.
Furthermore, the true value of this handle grows the more you use it.
By holding it daily, the oils from your hands slowly soak into the wood, and over three months, half a year, and a year, it will develop into a deep, lustrous hue, much like a polished antique. While the PVC body maintains an "unchanging beauty," the handle "grows beautifully along with you." This contrast between static and dynamic gives the bag an overwhelming sense of dimension and a luxury that transcends its price. |
3. A calculated color design where classic and modern coexist
|
|
|
The defining difference between this 20th Anniversary model and the original from three years ago lies in the "depth of its color tone."
A tweed-style body woven with warm browns and beiges. By adding the deep reddish tint of the Karin wood handles, the appearance is perfected as a classic-modern masterpiece.
However, the updates do not stop there. When you look inside the bag, a vibrant "custom dark green" interior, symbolizing the 20th anniversary, unfolds.
Furthermore, for the "Kaban no Hone" (bag skeleton), a proprietary part that supports the bag's structure and keeps its form beautiful, we have used a "custom dark gray" exclusive to this model.
From the classical exterior to the intelligent dark green glimpsed the moment you open the lid, and the dark gray that pulls it all together.
This layering of colors silently speaks volumes about the owner's sense of style. In the fleeting moment when you take documents out of the bag on your desk, or when you open it at a café, we have hidden this mature playfulness in the details—the kind that makes those around you look twice. |
4. A new story begins in your hands this early October
![]() A lifetime product that lasts is not simply one that "doesn't break." It is one that provides the reliability of "being dependable even on rainy days," the sensory pleasure of "feeling good every time you touch it," and the hospitality of "making your heart skip a beat every time you open it." Only when all these conditions are met can one continue to love an object.
The limited tweed reissue, returning in five sizes (YK7, YK3, YK4, YK59, YK31), is the culmination of our 20th year, meeting every one of those conditions.
Arrival and delivery to you are scheduled for early October, when the signs of autumn are in full swing.
Please look forward to its completion and the day you can pair this Karin wood handle and tweed texture with your new seasonal coats and jackets. In the final installment (scheduled for release in mid-August), we will go behind the scenes at a factory in Toyooka, Hyogo Prefecture—Japan's greatest hub for bag production—to see how these complex materials and natural wood are stitched into a single bag with sub-millimeter precision. Don't miss this chance to see the incredible dedication of our craftspeople.

There are plenty of high-quality items when it comes to men's clothing, but the selection for bags is surprisingly limited. I thought, "If that's the case, we'll just make them ourselves." It was with that straightforward sentiment that I launched the leather bag brand "YOUTA" in 2006. Having worked in various apparel-related fields including clothing, watches, and shoes, the material I focused on was synthetic leather. It is lightweight, rain-resistant, and requires no maintenance. I chose synthetic leather—also known as "vegan leather," a non-animal material that suits the modern era—for this reason. Through the traditional Japanese culture of craftsmanship, I aim to provide a comfortable business life for working people and to be a company that supports Japan's manufacturing industry.
